My six-year old daughter’s symptoms began at the beginning of 2008. She was constipated, had trouble going to the restroom because of pain, and ended up with fissures (small cuts) over the next few months. There was blood whenever she was able to go to the restroom. We took her to the doctors and he suggested Miralax, a laxative to help the constipation. After a couple of months we noticed that she was not getting better, and in fact, the severity of the symptoms had worsened. We took her to yet another doctor who suggested the same, a laxative. We knew she ate well and could not understand why it was that her fissures were not getting better and were worried about her being on a laxative for so long. At school she would have the nurse call home because her stomach hurt so badly. She began crying before she tried to go to the restroom because she knew it was going to hurt so badly. We had to stop making plans to go anywhere because we didn’t know if the pressure from not going was going to hurt from day to day. We spent several days inside because of the pain from being constipated and too afraid to go to the restroom.

 

The emergency room visit was the last straw. During the summer, my daughter was crying with abdominal pain so we rushed her to the emergency. They couldn’t help and the tests were really expensive. We decided to go to natural medicine because school was starting once again and we knew that the phone calls from the school nurse would start again if we didn’t get to the root of the problem. Dr. Huang treated her with acupuncture and she was given teas to drink over the next few months. Within a few weeks, we noticed that she had more energy and her symptoms began to improve.
